Eddie Bernice Johnson has been the Congresswoman for the 30th district of Texas for the past 17 years getting 80% of the vote in 2006 against Republican Wilson Aurbach and Libertarian Ken Ashby. Needless to say she is a popular figure in the Texas political arena. In 2002 she was a loud voice against the war in Iraq stating,
“I am not convinced that giving the President the authority to launch a unilateral, first-strike attack on Iraq is the appropriate course of action at this time. While I believe that under international law and under the authority of our Constitution, the United States must maintain the option to act in its own self-defense, I strongly believe that the administration has not provided evidence of an imminent threat of attack on the United States that would justify a unilateral strike. I also believe that actions alone, without exhausting peaceful options, could seriously harm global support for our war on terrorism and distract our own resources from this cause.”
The unpopularity of the war made her stance even more attractive to Democrats in Texas.
The political mood of the country has taken a sharp turn since the election of Obama in 2008. With the economy continuing to be a burden on any incumbent and the approval rating of Obama and Congress falling through the floor there seems to be an opening to anyone willing to challenge. The challenger in this case is Republican Pastor Stephen Broden. Pastor Borden is a respected member of the Dallas community and is putting out a message that not many in the 30th district have heard before. Pastor Broden is quick to point out Congresswoman Johnson’s 100% voting record with Nancy Pelosi. Pastor Borden says that in Johnson all the 30th district has is a “puppet” for Pelosi. As he points out Mrs. Johnson has not had a serious challenge for her seat by a true fiscal and social conservative that has deep roots in the community.
Only time will tell if the Pastor has what it takes to dethrone the congresswoman from her position, but with the political winds as they stand he as the best chance of anyone for the past 17 years.

I’m really looking forward to this race! I wish Pastor Borden all the best. We need to get Jonhnson and many more out of Washington!
I agree too. I have lived in south Dallas for over 10 years and can’t think of one thing this woman has done right. I don’t know much about this Pastor but I’m ready to get rid of Eddie. He’s got my vote!
